I made a stupid clicking error, and erased the previous post by mistake. I apologize. The latest rules can be viewed at http://liamerven.com/zonerules.txt If anyone wants to take some time to do editting, I would really apreciate it.

In all honesty, signing up for a user name then are stuck with it does seem a little barring. You're going to, in my mind, have to figure out an easier way for a user to change names, or allow for a user to register a new acount and come to you for the old one to be disabled. People's change, and with those changes, a person's username tends to change.

Post 4 by Jess227 on Sunday, 08-Jan-2006 16:15:13

Nick, do you mean display names? On my old boards on blindvi.org, your username was perminat but you could choose to change the display name. In other words you'd have to log in as always but you could always change your name to something else. i.e. You log in as Nick6489 but people will see your display name as Nick or whatever you wanted it as.

Display names! Liam ding ding ding.... I like this idea. Then you can have your display name set to however you'd like and CL's and admin's wouldn't have to change things. Radio-info.com boards have this feature as wel. Doesn't look like anything has changed since the last set of rules I read though...

Post 6 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Sunday, 08-Jan-2006 19:51:03

I sort of like the idea of display names, but it could be confusing. I have some people on my MSN Messenger contact list who change their display names very often, and I have to go through my list of contacts to see what name isn't in it's normal place in order to figure out who this "new" person is.

Post 7 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Sunday, 08-Jan-2006 20:35:55

uh. the user name thing is being worked on from what I hear. I can't say anymore than that, but.. that part in the policys will change as soon as it is updated zone side. I do agree though. Being stuck with a use rname does kind of suck, but if everyone keeps changing it, it'll just get confusing

Post 8 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Sunday, 08-Jan-2006 22:59:29

confusing is an understatement, and I really think that the name is just that, a name, made once, and stuck forever, I can't be yankee g 24 one day, and fucked-up-felon, the next, people will still think of a person as the names they're used to

Post 9 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Monday, 09-Jan-2006 1:18:00

the problem is is that we don't have user names and display names. I don't think it'll ever get to that point, but well. shrugs. I dunno.

Post 10 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 09-Jan-2006 6:02:37

well, i have never thought of changing my name so yeah but I think you are doing a great job and i think having these rules will ease a lot of tention who knows though

Post 11 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 09-Jan-2006 8:19:26

As for MSN< I always have my name before any comment I might attach. As for display names, there doesn't seem to be any confusion on other sites about it... Also keep in mind that people would be able to tell who is who based on how they act. Also I would think that if someone were to change there name, they'd tell all of us. If not then well, okay not.

Post 12 by AgentOrange (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 10-Jan-2006 9:32:46

Wow! Based on how they act. That has to be at least the dumbest thing I've heard so far today. Seems like something that will be easily exploited. Unless both the name and display name were shown together, someone could get pissed off at someone else, and pretend to be that person. Lets use our minds, people.

Post 13 by AgentOrange (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 10-Jan-2006 9:34:54

Someone feel free to delete one of those posts. The page got refreshed by mistake. Which brings to mind an idea for a new feature. We should be able to edit and delete our own posts. Every other forum I've ever used has that function.

Post 14 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 10-Jan-2006 12:50:52

I agree with the 3rd post josh, I've accidentally written /con like 5 times, and it really annoys me, and probably the other people who read it

Post 15 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Tuesday, 10-Jan-2006 15:29:18

well. there was supposed to be like a fix for people who fresh the page, and post multiple messages by accident. shrugs. don't shoot the messenger.

Post 16 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Tuesday, 10-Jan-2006 19:39:18

yes, the system posting multiple times is a pest if you've just posted a mesage to the boards and happen to hit the refresh button. Then that really is a case for a certain phrase I've seen on here often enough, "Oi! the multiples!" *smile* a preview page wouldn't go amiss on here, so one could preview how one's posts would look when posted. though isn't discussion of this kind of thing meant to be on another topic? I don't know.

Post 17 by AgentOrange (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 17-Jan-2006 3:00:57

Aside from the whole multiple post issue, it would just be nice to be able to edit or delete any posts we make.

Post 18 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 17-Jan-2006 11:17:31

I agree

Post 19 by Texas Shawn (The cute, cuddley, little furr ball) on Tuesday, 17-Jan-2006 11:52:52

being able to remove a topic might be cool too!

Post 20 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 17-Jan-2006 12:35:41

hmmm...oy the multiples?

Post 21 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 18-Jan-2006 10:34:17

I never want to change my user name! I'd love to be able to remove some of my posts though!

Post 22 by KC8PNL (The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.) on Thursday, 19-Jan-2006 4:43:55

I don't agree that users should be able to ultimatley remove their posts. What is said is said, and think of it this way. After you've sent an email to someone, can u recall that email and delete it? No. I think it would be something witch could really mess up the cohesion in the boards, and this is why I don't like this feature. However, one feature I'd like to see is a character count while u r writing your posts so that you don't have to worry about going over the 4000 character limit. This would be especially useful in the writer's block category. Editing could be nice to have, with the option of not blanking out a message put in place. Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

Post 23 by Perestroika (Her Swissness) on Thursday, 19-Jan-2006 6:43:28

i think being able to remove posts is a fantastic idea. afterall, feelings and oppinions change.

Post 24 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Thursday, 19-Jan-2006 7:48:33

On the subject of usernames, we already have numbers, so why not be able to change the display name associated with that number?

Post 25 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 19-Jan-2006 14:21:00

I agree about the changing of usernames. As far as removing posts, I don't agree with that. However, I do think there should be a feature where you an edit your post for a set number of minutes after the post has been poasted. John

Post 26 by EssenceOfFaith (The Creamy Apple) on Saturday, 21-Jan-2006 10:31:20

When you change a name, it already is asociated with your number. Don't ask how I know this; it's a long story. As for editing and deleting posts, do we really need to bring this up again? It's been over a year in a half since i've joined, and I've seen many board topics in my time. One of these happened to be a topic in this very board about editing and deleting posts. And most of us agreed it wouldn't b a good idea based upon arguments already stated above. I see no problem with the policies, seeing as how they were already enforced even before they were written. Problems happen so often here that it's kinda hard to forget them. However, I must express a certain sadness of the fact that the CL's and admins have agreed to do this. Rules are only strongly enforced when they're needed. They reflect the actions of zone users. I don't see this as improvement. I see this as a downhill slope, because in the past you guys didn't have to worry as much about users. I could be wrong...

Post 27 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Saturday, 28-Jan-2006 5:59:09

reason why it's like this is thus. It is true that every user name is correspoding to a USID, but we don't actively use our user IDs that much. when I see user ID 16, I hav eno clue what that means. but when I see th ename Liam. oh! that guy! Myspace has a cool thing where each person has a user name, but they has a display name that can change. I'm not quite sure how that system would work, and I'm sure that knowing some of yall, it would get abused.

Post 28 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 28-Jan-2006 11:54:41

Liam, anything can get abused. But at the same time, should things not aloud to be just because some might abuse them? Not starting an argument buddy, just asking.

Post 29 by AgentOrange (Generic Zoner) on Sunday, 29-Jan-2006 3:20:03

I rarely use the boards, but it still seems to me that we should be able to edit or delete our posts. Any other forum such as PHPBB allows those features. And as far as retracting what was said, if someone feels the need to archive anything that was written here, they can do so in the same way you could keep an e-mail. Interestingly enough, a lot of network e-mail systems such as Groupwise do allow users to delete e-mail after it has been sent.

Post 30 by Rune Knight (Ancient Demon - Darkness will always conquer Light!) on Sunday, 29-Jan-2006 4:45:31

I think it would be a spectacular idea if we were able to edit or delete board posts. After all our thoughts and opinions on things do change. I also think it would be awesome to somehow set up a system to where we could change our usernames rather than waiting for the Admins or Community Leaders to do it.

Post 34 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 29-Jan-2006 16:04:20

Yeah , for those of us that know the code enough to write HTML, our board posts look nice. The rest of us like me hav to deal with a lalack of formatting, which bugs me to say the least. Why are the boards in plain text like this? Also, I agree with the 20-minute time span, that's exactluy what I had in mind, CG. Along those notes however, how about the ability to change the s subject line as a topic progresses? Perhaps set it up in threads? Make some setting where you can view the intire thread on one page, or view it as one subject with multiple replys below that you can click on as links.
